3795 Configure and position a mobile crane, and lift
and place regular and irregular loads

OVERVIEW

The Approved Code of Practice for Cranes (3rd edition 2009) states: All persons operating or working with a crane must hold applicable unit standards as a minimum qualification and preferably hold the relevant National Certificate in Crane operation.

People credited with this unit standard are able to: demonstrate knowledge of using a mobile crane, configure and position a mobile crane, lift and place regular and irregular loads with a mobile crane, prepare mobile crane for travel mode, and complete documentation; and carry out daily and weekly operator maintenance of a mobile crane.

COURSE AIM

This course meets the required unit outcomes as stated below.
-Demonstrate knowledge of using a mobile crane.
-Configure and position a mobile crane.
-Lift and place regular and irregular loads with a mobile crane.
-Prepare mobile crane for travel mode, and complete documentation.
-Carry out daily and weekly operator maintenance of a mobile crane.  

The learning outcomes of the training provide an understanding of the responsibilities, compliance and company processes required for operation.  The course covers maintenance, pre-use checks, operational requirements and skills.  

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

-Identify hazards and implement control measures when operating a mobile crane
-The care and use of the crane and lifting equipment 
-Pre-start checks and service, fault reporting, load attachment, load lifting, load traversing, load placement.
-Understanding and using mobile crane terminology.
-Understanding the importance of pre-operational checks.
-Being aware of the safety codes for Crane operators.
-Developing safe usage techniques.
-Handling loads, parking and storage techniques.
